How Ungrateful

Yeah, this kinda entirely came about from me and Martin bitching to each other abuot how much we disliked Winry. I always really thought she was an irritating character; as immature as Edward can be, he's a lot more heroic and capable than she ever gives him credit for, to the point that she comes across as downright unsympathetic when he's suffering. She kinda has that Misty-from-Pokemon/Naru-from-Love-Hina deal where she shits on the main character constantly and it's supposed to be okay because she's the love interest. Even though that not only doesn't make it okay, that makes it WORSE.

The fact that she's super-possessive of her automail always freaked me out too. I guess that's where this picture came from.... Yeah, was bizarrely easy to see her shouting at Edward about this. Every OTHER time something bad happens to him it's totally his fault.

In general that's a problem with a lot of stories, now that I think about it. I've seen a lot of works (Harry Potter springs immediately to mind) where people are always blaming the main character for being in danger when they fully understand the how/why of them going out to fight evil. Now it can be interesting when the character can't shift through their priorities (Daredevil) or when they're making really stupid decisions (Goku) or when they're being straight-up careless (Ash) but half the time people understand and know what they signed up for. Harry Potter and Spider-Man were especially big cases where they genuinely had limited control over what was happening to them, but somehow that was THEIR fault.

Okay, that was a weird rant. Uh... If you're interested in our own viewpoints on people doing heroic things, look at our webcomics and . There are super-heroes fighting bad guys. No automail butts, though.

Martin's Comments: Really I dunno if I'd even say I necessarily dislike Winry on the whole. Certainly not a favorite but she does have her moments. Still, I certainly don't really understand the ship at all and when I do find her entertaining it's much more in regards to the tech nerd stuff, or the rare times when she's showing some actual empathy instead of just blaming Edward for everything.

But yeah, I dunno. Think the picture came out good but really don't know what all I've got to say about it. Do hope that everybody enjoys though. If only because we've got several more Edward pictures waiting in the wings.
