Grandsword Commission- Xenoverse

I'm really glad to be getting this out now. The artwork is in the middle of a particular step of evolution that you can see in the comics, and things waiting for submission in the stash are rapidly becoming worse-looking the further we go ahead. This was done back in September; the character is 's OC from the Dragonball Xenoverse game.

I pulled out all the stops in drawing Shenron; it was an experience I was definitely looking forward to, and in a way made me appreciate just how cool of a presense he had in the anime. For being the pay-off to the titular MacGuffins, Shenron is easy to forget, but there is this sense of scope and weight that you feel whenever he shows up. That why for all the other problems in GT, I DID really like the idea of over-using the Dragonballs having a huge drawback. It gave them a larger role in the story, and felt like a natural progression of how the MacGuffin could function.

Even though with the minor changes made to the artwork already result in this looking a bit dated, I think Shenron looks pretty damn good. I really tried to put in everything I had into that lineart, and Martin really made the finished product look pop. The glow and coloring give it a great feel, especially with the darker sky all around him. I remember Martin saying that after doing this he wouldn't be opposed to coming up with an excuse to put a dragon in our webcomics, and still curious about it myself. ^^ Especially with how much the two of us have improved in the last couple of months.

For the record, the dialog was written by at the request of the commissioner.

Martin's Comments: This one's weird for me to weigh in on, because I'm like the one guy on the Internet who never remotely cared about DBZ, and this was done forever ago so I don't particularly remember much about the process of coloring it. Pretty sure it happened at a time when I was really desperate for the money, guess there's that?

If nothing else I'm with Adam on thinking Shenron's the best part of this, really kind of makes me want to do some dragon stuff in the comics at some point. Or more dragon stuff on this page even. Maybe we could try and do something with dragon Tohru at some point? If you've seen our Patreon page we've already got one Dragon Maid picture done and it is something we're wanting to explore more down the line.
